【Y8】Math:Triangular Fun!

投稿日2025/12/22

During Term 2, the Year 8 AG Maths classes learned a lot about triangles.
In our project, we had to use both Pythagoras’ Theorem and our knowledge of similar triangles to solve for unknown lengths where measuring wasn’t possible.
We learned about mathematical assumptions and how these can affect maths when applied in real life situations.
Students used their own height and length of their shadow to make a similar right angled triangle to a much taller object in the school, then measured the shadow of the object and used these lengths to calculate the actual height of the object.
We learned that the shadows needed to be measured at the exact same time in order for the angle of light from the sun to be the same, something that is necessary in similar triangles.
This project was a fun way to apply the maths we had learned in class and test theories to find the most accurate measurement of an unmeasurable object.
