This term in Year 7 AG Maths we have learned about a lot of new topics!
One of those topics was Ratios. We use ratios all the time in real life – when we need to double a recipe; when we compare prices on products sold in different amounts; and when using a scale to read a map, One very practical use of ratios is in engineering and construction when plans are drawn using a scale factor.
The Year 7 AG Maths classes took this a step further and used ratios to determine the scale factor on a 3D scale model.
We used recycled materials to make a scale model of a room from real life and discovered just how difficult it can be to ensure accuracy when making a scale model!
By the end of the project everyone had a new appreciation for how time consuming it can be to measure carefully and create a 3D model!
