Year 7 AG Geography students recently completed a fascinating project where they designed their own planets, putting their understanding of climate science to the test. They explored how latitude, prevailing winds, and terrain all play crucial roles in determining a location’s temperature and precipitation.
The project also allowed students to express their creativity as they imagined what it would take for humans to settle on a new world. They made decisions about the best areas for settlement, what crops could thrive, and how to prepare for potential extreme weather.
While human settlement on another planet might be a distant prospect, this activity provides a unique and engaging way for students to think about and understand the complexities of Earth’s climate.
