Year 10 Philosophy students have been exploring one of humanity’s most fascinating questions: Are we truly free to choose, or are our lives determined by factors beyond our control? Through discussions and thought experiments, students examined ideas about free will and determinism, considering how biology, upbringing, culture, technology, and society can influence the decisions we make.
This topic challenged students to think critically, evaluate different perspectives, and justify their own ideas using logical reasoning and evidence. These are essential 21st-century skills that empower young people to navigate an increasingly complex world with confidence and curiosity.
As they are developing as global citizens, the students recognised that understanding different beliefs and experiences helps build empathy, open mindedness, and informed decision making.
