The Grade 11 WACE Chemistry students practiced making stock solutions – using highly concentrated acids to make dilute solutions with specific concentrations. It’s a task that requires focus, as the highly concentrated acids are extremely hazardous, producing corrosive fumes when the bottle opens!

To make sure things went smoothly, the students calculated exactly how much of the acid they needed to make the specified volume at the correct concentration, making use of our theoretical lessons in a practical setting. These stock solutions were then used to show the typical reactions of acids. The class used theoretical lessons to help them in a practical lesson, then used the products of that practical lesson to illustrate our theoretical lessons.
